A Stranger in Town – And Bridget O’Shea Has Questions

Cowesport is no stranger to curious visitors, but when someone new lingers longer than expected, well—that’s when the talking starts. And if you ask Bridget O’Shea, there’s talking to be done.
The stranger in question? A man who arrived on the morning ferry three days ago, carrying a well-worn leather satchel, an unreadable expression, and the sort of demeanor that suggests he’s looking for something—or someone.
What We Know (According to Bridget O’Shea, and therefore, Everyone)
- He’s staying at The Harp & Anchor Inn. Paid for a full week in advance. No hesitation. No questions asked. “Suspicious.”
- He spends a great deal of time watching the harbor. “Like he’s waiting for something to come in, or maybe for someone to leave.”
- He ordered a Guinness at The Hare & Hound—at ten in the morning. “Not illegal, but questionable.”
- He’s been spotted reading old town records in St. Bridget’s Church. “That’s the part that got my attention.”
What We Don’t Know (Yet)
- His name. He’s given it to a few people, but no two accounts seem to match.
- Why he’s here. Business? Pleasure? Something else?
- What he’s looking for. Because according to Sister Eleanor, he is looking for something. And Sister Eleanor knows everything that happens inside that church.
Speculation Runs Wild
Finn O’Shea swears he saw the man taking notes on an old newspaper clipping in the library archives. Declan at The Hare & Hound says he keeps asking about places that no longer exist. And as of last night, Bridget is convinced she’s seen him before—though she can’t quite recall where.
The general consensus? Something’s afoot.
And in Cowesport, when something’s afoot, it’s only a matter of time before the truth makes its way to the surface.
Stay tuned. Bridget O’Shea certainly will.
